As mentioned in this video is not that the introduction of the first episode of a series of posts where you talk about the wonderful laboratory that I could follow, leading you through a journey full of ideas and reflections . A priceless experience.
A special welcome goes out to fellow students, young illustrators and others, with whom I shared good times and laughs: It was a real pleasure.

The Wild Swans - Topipittori
Every time I open a picture book by Joanna Concejo me shake my wrists with emotion, as his images I get to the heart, without filters or inhibitions. is stronger than me, engulfs the entire emotional wave that will not let me breath, as if all the most beautiful and sad memories come out from their drawers ordered and began to dance up and down my body.
When I heard that John and Paul, the mice to be clear, the texts were assigned to one of the most beautiful and inaccessible of Andersen I deeply enjoyed, certainly not for sadism: this was one of the stories my grandmother told me more often and I could not wait to be able to dive in the interpretation that would have given Joanna.
is not easy to deal with a classic, much less if the classic Hans Christian Andersen is signed, because the psychological complexity of his stories is heavy, so make its melancholic and poetic is extremely difficult because the hardness of his stories seems to be hopeless at times (I still feel the anguish that, babe, I tried to read The Little Mermaid). It is not easy to give as a mind so fine and restless.
This account, in particular, is extremely complex because it represents the fall from paradise into the abyss of childhood that often accompany adolescence, between disillusionment and an inability to communicate, including the loss of affections loved ones and the desperate attempt to bring them back to itself.
The protagonist, Elisa, is alone. Left to itself, every minute of his life is linked in memory of his beloved brothers, now finds himself an adult, and the moments spent together. As in all fairy tales are observed, an advocate of the fall is the wicked stepmother who alienates children from their father and condemns them to a silence imposed by the metamorphosis into swans for the brothers and forced the dismissal for Elisa.
Elisa is a child first and then a young woman of great virtue, as is well-suited to the classic fairy-tale heroine: beautiful, gentle, unwavering religious faith, she entrusts his fate and that of brothers Swans-God's mercy, strictly following the precepts given to it without doubt, without any failure. In spite of physical suffering caused by the nettle that is forced to spin to make shirts that dissolve the spell of the witch-stepmother, in spite of the risks she was running, the young woman will complete its task in ensuring herself and longed for a happy ending to his brothers.
Joanna has made an interpretation of this wonderful tale, full of symbolic references and senior moments. His illustrations stress in many ways the loneliness of Elisa, as in the illustration below, in which the nettles form a kind of frame / prison island in the beautiful princess from the rest of the world:

Ideas For A Confirmation Letter
Le Géant - L 'Atelier du Poisson Soluble
" Maman et moi avons decide d'adopter a Géant! C'est d'être mieux regarder pour les trois étoiles. *
Thus begins the new book by Nicolas Thers for fish solubles of France: Le Géant , the giant.
The title and cover are already all: a giant, the portrait, which looks a little scary at the giant Polyphemus or villains of Roald Dahl, no trace of memories in this high Rabelassiane titan, rather dominates the appearance of the young entrepreneur, doctor, clerk bank. A real urban behemoth, complete with jacket and white shirt.
Yet it is huge, no doubt!
When I saw this book for the first time, I was struck by the use of color and image quality, rather unusual, yet totally engaging. The visual impact was such that the text message, at least in the very first tempo, è passato in secondo piano.
Of course, in the presence of a being so big, it's normal to feel intimidated and maybe a little 'suspicious, at least at first, but then, if the giant is gentle, if it takes us a few gifts and smothers if we can explore it a bit 'and takes care of us, then you inevitably make friends with him.
I was deeply amused to see how the author exposes us this giant party game / child, when in fact the third figure - or the mother - is only incidental to the purposes of the narrative, since it appears only in the first sentence that you I reported and is never represented in the images.
The whole book is played around the slow and steady approach between the two, of course, images and text fully nourish the vision of the child first and accentuate the fears, which are reflected in the representation of the giant in all its grandeur and natural Quesi girl made invisible (see image above), and the gradual acceptance of man as a result, which coincides with the slow downsizing of both the characters until you reach an adult size to be found for the giant and a reasonable physical size for the child (see pictures below).
This process of recovery of the real dimensions of the characters, with the consequent change in the balance of the primordial role-playing game, developed through the slow and steady physical approach of the two: the child that the principle of the book was a small spot of color in the distance, takes increasingly substance when it comes to the giant, as if to signify that the growth of a human being can only be done when it relates to those who surroundings.
As for images, Thers has been satisfied with the montage elaborated by graphics palette, the colors are clear, simple, immediate. Ceme I said before the images are played on a daring and skillful play of perspectives, the urban environment, almost futuristic, gives the images a surreal touch that goes well with the improbability of the initial situation. In a future not so far the Giants go out of their hiding places and become friends and dad. A
bell'albo illustrated, perfect identification with the imaginary child, and positive summary of the fundamentals of modern families.

Voglio però parlare proprio del messaggio del libro, prima di passare alle immagini, perché tratta di una tematica attualissima che tocca moltissime famiglie, siano esse risultato di una separazione o di una vedovanza, che si scompongono per ricomporsi altrimenti.
La voce narrante della storia è una bambina che ci racconta di come lei e la sua mamma abbiano deciso di adottare un gigante, per l'appunto. Ci sono ottimi motivi, pare, per adottarne uno e la spiegazione è doviziosamente dettagliata.

When Silvia told me that it would be released his first book, in addition to the joy of see her crowned a dream like this, I immediately thought that I would have pleasant surprises and so is state. Moreover, a person of his intensity, I did not expect anything less.
In this poetic story, made even deeper by the beautiful illustrations by Chiara Carrer, Silvia tells of a difficult subject and he did not choose an easy way out, takes the contrary, the way most fraught, puts salt on the wounds, show in all its harrowing power the power of pain: El Tren is the story of a girl and her father, the story of a trio remained a vital part of maimed, her mother, who tells the story attempting to fill a gap that becomes ruinous cliff.
A father and sua bambina, soli, ad osservare le stelle e un nuovo punto luminoso, lontano. Un piccolo punto che a tratti sembra quasi di poter sfiorare, la mano protesa nel vuoto. E poi, nel silenzio dell'attesa, una voce di bambina che racconta di un sogno ricorrente: c'è un treno da prendere eppure, nonostante tutti gli sforzi, questi parte solitario lasciando la piccola affranta sulla banchina della stazione.
Nell'alternarsi fra la narrazione del sogno e atti di vita quotidiana, assistiamo allo sciogliersi del dolore, alla metamorfosi che porta l'ineffabile a farsi più concreto e il reale meno definito, maybe even less definitive.

Mi piace particolarmente il modo in cui il testo rende la semplicità di una conversazione fra padre e figlia, di come i gesti più semplici lascino il posto ad istanti più alti: senza mai perdere di vista il tema centrale del libro, l'autrice ci rende partecipi della vita che scorre, inseguendo imperturbabile i propri ritmi e le proprie logiche.
La narrazione di Chiara Carrer aggiunge, soppesa, commuove, interpreta questo bel testo in modo, a mio avviso, sublime. Come dicevo poc'anzi, la storia si fonda su un doppio registro di lettura che alterna sogno a reale, emozione a gesto, ragione a sentimento, per questa dicotomia così difficile da rendere, Chiara trova una chiave interpretativa desueta se si guarda a buona parte delle sue precedenti opere (anche se molti germi di questo suo ultimo lavoro in realtà sono presenti anche altrove): mentre il reale ha una veste più grafica, l'onirico ha veste pittorica, eccovi un esempio
nel momento del sogno, e forse anche a livello psicologico quello del dolore, il tratto si sfoca per lasciare spazio alla materia del colore, la tavola si sporca quasi a divenire macchia per dar voce a quanto non si riesce a spiegare altrimenti; nel momento in cui il racconto riprende, le nebbie del colore si diradano per lasciare campo ad un segno ritrovato.
Tutto si svela nella specularità dell'immagine qui sopra, punto di svolta della narrazione per immagini, poiché rappresentazione del momento in cui sogno e reale si toccano per la prima volta: sul lato sinistro è raffigurata la bambina nel sogno, quasi prossima al risveglio come possiamo intuire dalla definizione più puntuale della sua figura rispetto all'immagine precedente, sul destro il momento in cui la bimba chiede al padre cosa tutto questo possa significare. La posa identica della piccola, lo sguardo riflesso dell'emozione e del dolore narrati in questa doppia immagine, il colore e la sua assenza, raccontano un momento altamente symbolic flows in the absence of concrete answers to the necessary metabolism of reality.
From this moment begins the journey of father and daughter to a new day ...
a day when we just reach out to the stars we love ...
I do my best wishes to this fine book, which can be put into many houses, and my compliments (also) to publishers who, with courage and professionalism in dealing with difficult issues, never backing down .

Mi piace particolarmente il modo in cui il testo rende la semplicità di una conversazione fra padre e figlia, di come i gesti più semplici lascino il posto ad istanti più alti: senza mai perdere di vista il tema centrale del libro, l'autrice ci rende partecipi della vita che scorre, inseguendo imperturbabile i propri ritmi e le proprie logiche.
La narrazione di Chiara Carrer aggiunge, soppesa, commuove, interpreta questo bel testo in modo, a mio avviso, sublime. Come dicevo poc'anzi, la storia si fonda su un doppio registro di lettura che alterna sogno a reale, emozione a gesto, ragione a sentimento, per questa dicotomia così difficile da rendere, Chiara trova una chiave interpretativa desueta se si guarda a buona parte delle sue precedenti opere (anche se molti germi di questo suo ultimo lavoro in realtà sono presenti anche altrove): mentre il reale ha una veste più grafica, l'onirico ha veste pittorica, eccovi un esempio
nel momento del sogno, e forse anche a livello psicologico quello del dolore, il tratto si sfoca per lasciare spazio alla materia del colore, la tavola si sporca quasi a divenire macchia per dar voce a quanto non si riesce a spiegare altrimenti; nel momento in cui il racconto riprende, le nebbie del colore si diradano per lasciare campo ad un segno ritrovato.
Tutto si svela nella specularità dell'immagine qui sopra, punto di svolta della narrazione per immagini, poiché rappresentazione del momento in cui sogno e reale si toccano per la prima volta: sul lato sinistro è raffigurata la bambina nel sogno, quasi prossima al risveglio come possiamo intuire dalla definizione più puntuale della sua figura rispetto all'immagine precedente, sul destro il momento in cui la bimba chiede al padre cosa tutto questo possa significare. La posa identica della piccola, lo sguardo riflesso dell'emozione e del dolore narrati in questa doppia immagine, il colore e la sua assenza, raccontano un momento altamente symbolic flows in the absence of concrete answers to the necessary metabolism of reality.
