Hilary Duff was born in Houston, Texas as the second child of Robert Erhard Duff, owner of a chain of supermarkets, and his wife Susan Colleen Cobb. The second name, "Erhard" was the maiden name of his paternal grandmother, originally from Germany, Mary Erhard; Duff also has German ancestry from his maternal grandmother, Amy Beulah Schlemmer. After her mother encouraged her to an acting career alongside her elder sister, Haylie Duff, both girls got more parts in theater productions in the area. Hilary at the age of six years (with her sister Haylie) participated in the ballet The Nutcracker with the Cecchetti ballet company.
The sisters became more enthusiastic about the idea of \u200b\u200bacting professionally and eventually moved to California in Los Angeles with his family. After years of hearings and prints, both Duff sisters were able to obtain in different parts of TV commercials.
